What's in this week's newsletter

Four new iPhone legal apps plus Paris travel apps for BlackBerry and iPhone.

If you know anyone who is traveling to Paris, forward this newsletter to that person. Even if someone does not own an iPhone or BlackBerry, a person can purchase an iTouch, which will run the iPhone apps for a minimal investment.

Monday's "Morning Edition" on NPR

NPR's Renee Montagne interviewed Mario Armstrong ("Verizon's Droid Phone to Compete with iPhone."). Armstrong explained that apps (as opposed to a phone's hardware) are becoming the most important feature on a phone. To listen to the interview, click here.

No new BlackBerry apps this week

As further evidence that BlackBerry does not understand the importance of apps, this is our fifth weekly Apps Newsletter and still no new BlackBerry legal apps. iPhone is leaving BlackBerry in the dust. As explained in the NPR article referenced above, apps are becoming the most important feature of a phone.

Moreover, BlackBerry is about to get more app competition. At any time, Microsoft's "Windows Marketplace for Mobile" web site will begin listing apps that work on phones running Windows 6.5.

3.  New York Penal Code ($4.99)

4.  New York Vehicle and Traffic Code ($3.99)

BlackBerry travel apps for Paris

I visited BlackBerry's AppWorld and created a web page of the apps for Paris, France that look most interesting. I have not tested any of these apps. As you might expect, iTunes has a much larger selection of Paris travel apps as compared with BlackBerry's AppWorld. To see the web page I created, click here.

Here are a few examples of apps listed on our BlackBerry Paris travel apps page:

BEIKS Talking English-French Phrase Book for BlackBerry ($9.99) contains 256 essential phrases spoken by actors.

SmartCity Paris ($5.99) is a Paris travel guide.

Coming attractions

I love classic movies from the 1940s and 1950s. Next week, I am going to provide a list of my favorite lawyer movies and classic movies available on iTunes and Amazon.com.

Have a good week,
